Job Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer 

FLSA Status: Exempt

Pay Rate: $95,000 – $141,400

Reports to: Engineering Supervisor, Batteries

Location: Onsite

KULR Technology Location: Webster, Texas

Travel: 10% Travel

Position Overview:

The Senior Mechanical Engineer designs and develops battery systems, manages projects from conception to completion, and provides technical expertise and leadership to our team of engineers. This role leverages a strong background in mechanical engineering and battery design, excellent project management skills, and leads and mentors other engineers.

Functions: 

  • Design battery systems: The primary function of a Senior Mechanical Engineer with a specialization in batteries is to design and develop battery systems, including selecting components, designing mechanical components in CAD software, and integrating electrical systems.
  • Conduct research and analysis: The Senior Mechanical Engineer conducts research and analysis to identify new technologies and best practices in battery design and apply them to projects where appropriate.
  • Small Project management: The Senior Mechanical Engineer manages smaller battery projects from conception to completion, ensuring that they are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest possible standard.
  • Technical expertise and leadership: The Senior Mechanical Engineer provides technical expertise and leadership to a team of engineers, ensuring that they are equipped to deliver high-quality work.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients: The Senior Mechanical Engineer develops and maintain relationships with clients, ensuring that their needs are met and that they are satisfied with the work that is delivered.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance: The Senior Mechanical Engineer ensures that all work is carried out in accordance with relevant regulations and standards, such as Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and SAE (formerly named the Society of Automotive Engineers).
  • Innovation and creativity: The Senior Mechanical Engineer fosters innovation and creativity in the design and development of battery systems, identifying new opportunities to improve efficiency, reliability, and sustainability.
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving: The Senior Mechanical Engineer leverages strong analytical and problem-solving skills and identifies and resolves complex mechanical engineering challenges related to battery design.
  • Continuous improvement: The Senior Mechanical Engineer constantly works towards continuous improvement, seeking out opportunities to enhance processes, tools, and techniques to drive efficiencies and improve quality.
  • Business development: The Senior Mechanical Engineer contributes to the development of proposals, bids, and other business development activities, leveraging their technical expertise and industry knowledge to support growth and expansion initiatives.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education & Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
  • 4-7 years of CAD focused mechanical engineering design experience.
  • Preferred:
    • Experience in designing battery systems, including selecting components, designing mechanical components, and integrating electrical systems.
    • Science, technology or math background.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Excellent project management skills, with a proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver them on time and within budget.
  • Ability to mentor earlier career engineers and interns.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve complex mechanical engineering challenges related to battery design.
  • Professional level proficiency in CAD (Solidworks preferred) and other design software.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulations and standards, such as Department of Transportation (DOT), IEEE and SAE, related to battery design.
  • A commitment to sustainability and a desire to work on projects that have a positive impact on the environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence others, build effective relationships with both internal and external stakeholders to accomplish business objectives.
