Job Title: Engineering Design Manager, Safe Storage Solutions
Reports to: Director of Engineering
Position Overview:
KULR Technology Corporation specializes in lithium-ion battery safety and thermal runaway containment. A pillar of KULR’s products and programs is our Safe Storage Solutions (SafeX) product line. With this product line KULR offers solutions for transportation and storage of lithium-ion cells and batteries that are prototypes, dead, end-of-life, and/or ready for recycling. Of recent, KULR has launched the SafeCASE solution for 2.5 kWh storage/transportation and the SafeSLEEVE solution for 300 Wh capacity. As KULR continues to go, so does the associated SafeX programs and product line verticals. KULR is now looking for an Engineering Design Manager for the Safe Storage Solutions programs/products who will become the primary owner and responsible engineering official for the associated development activities. The design manager will manage (1) a small team of engineers through ongoing and future development activities, (2) program cost, and (3) program schedule, and will also be the technical face of the product directly to key customers. Development activities include design management, rigorous thermal runaway abuse testing campaigns, and design qualification. The design manager will also support all cross-development activities associated with volume production of the SafeX product lines.
Functions:
- Lead the Safe Storage Solutions (SafeX) team to successful outcomes through training, development, engagement.
- Lead design and development efforts by leveraging project management tools such as Microsoft Project and Solidworks PDM.
- Lead engineering design reviews on behalf of the SafeX team and support the in-line engineers with product drawing reviews. Design reviews include, but are not limited to, System Requirements Review (SRR), Preliminary Design Review (PDR), Critical Design Review (CDR), Design for Manufacturing (DFM), and Final Design Review (FDR).
- Support the drafting, editing, and reviewing of language associated with, but not limited to:
- Systems Requirements Document (SRD)
- Qualification Plan (QP)
- Test Plans and Procedures (TPPs)
- Testing and Analysis Reports
- Technical datasheets and marketing materials
- In-line participation in design, test, and analysis activities
- Lead the team in Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) exercises.
- Cost and schedule management.
- Interface with customer.
- Support sales for new development requests from customers.
- Communicate expectations clearly, support team members with resources and on-the-job training as needed.
- Create cohesion and community on the team to deliver measurable outcomes.
- Oversight of and responsibility for design progress through KULR Product Design Process (PDP)
- Effective cross-department communication and collaboration with manufacturing, operations, supply chain, and quality teams.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This position will supervise 2-5 staff.
Supervisor duties to include:
- Screens applications, interviews candidates, and recommends individuals for hiring.
- Trains and assigns work to new and continuing employees.
- Delegates tasks and provides effective direction to team members to produce substantial business results.
- Independently conducts frequent performance feedback weekly, quarterly and annually, to include annual performance evaluations.
- Makes recommendations for salary increases, merit increases and reclassifications.
- In conjunction with HR, determines corrective action as needed for direct reports.
Requirements:
- B.S. in Mechanical, Electrical, or Electrochemical Engineering (required)
- Experience leading small engineering teams (required).
- 7-9 years’ experience with design and manufacturing of engineering products. 10+ years’ experience desired.
- Experience designing for volume product system enclosures (desired)
- Prior experience or knowledge of battery safety and thermal runaway protection measures (desired).
- Cross-system experience involving, or interacting with, the design of lithium-ion battery structural, mechanical, and electrical systems (desired).
- Previous hands-on experience in laboratory testing environment involving participation in test execution, data recording, and report writing (desired).
- Graduate degree in STEM field (desired)
- Certifications in PMP, project management, or alterative (desired)
- Prior experience with high voltage systems (desired).
